Who doesn’t want a bit of texture with their winter accessories? I know I do! This Bubble Beanie was designed with that in mind. Use the simple puff stitch to give your beanie a bit of texture while still keeping your head warm and protected. This pattern includes instructions for size adjustments and images to help along with the puff stitch.

Following the pattern exactly as written will result in a beanie approximately 22 inches around and 8 inches tall.
To adjust the size around, add or subtract rows during the creation of the band (rows 2-44). Be sure it’s an even number!
To adjust the height, add or subtract rows during the puff stitch section (rows 48-55).

ch – Chain
sl st – Slip Stitch
sc – Single Crochet
hdc – Half Double Crochet
dc – Double Crochet
blo – Back Loop Only

Hook size H (5mm)
Approx. 170 yards worsted weight acrylic yarn (I used Joann’s Big Twist)

Let’s get started!
Puff Stitch Instructions: [yo, insert hook, pull up a loop x 5] (11 loops on hook), pull through all stitches, and ch1 to secure]
Row 1: ch8, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each st across, ch1, turn (7 hdc)
Row 2 – 44: 1 hdc sm st, 1 hdc blo each st across, ch1, turn (7 hdc)
Place ends together and slip stitch to form your band.
Row 45: ch1, sc evenly around, ss to join (44 sc)
Row 46: ch2, puff st same st, ch1, sk st, **puff st next st, ch1, sk st** – repeat around **, ss to join (22 puff st)
Row 47: ss into ch1 sp, ch2, puff st same st, ch1, sk st, **puff st next st, ch1, sk st** – repeat around **, ss to join (22 puff st)
Row 48-55: repeat row 47
Row 56: ch1, sc same st, 1 sc each st and ch1 sp around, ss to join (44sc)
Row 57: ch1, sc same st, 1 sc each st around, ss to join (44sc)
Row 58: ch1, 1sc sm st, 1sc next st, sc dec, 1 sc next 2 st, sc dec – repeat around ** ss to join
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Use this long tail to sew the top of the beanie closed. Then weave in your ends!
